FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PePLink and Airpath Partner to Deliver Operational Support System (OSS) Functionality for Wi-Fi Customer Premise Equipment
Hong Kong, September 5, 2006 – PePLink, the leader in wireless and wired broadband Internet products and solutions, and Airpath, the leader in enabling management and roaming for wireless broadband networks, today jointly announced the establishment of a strategic partnership. The partnership aims to deliver value to customers through combining and leveraging the proven and trusted PePLink Surf Wi-Fi modem device and Airpath’s WiBOSS Metro product, which is the leading Back Office Operational Support System geared toward Metropolitan Wi-Fi providers. These synergies now allow Network operators to provide Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) to their subscribers with the devices being authenticated by Airpath’s WiBOSS Metro Product before network access is granted.
Major benefits of OSS in the context of citywide Wi-Fi are the abilities to manage customers’ access to a citywide Wi-Fi network, and to enable customers to “roam” among otherwise disparate networks. In multi-vendor environments such as citywide Wi-Fi networks, interoperability is a key issue, especially in the case of the roaming customer. With interoperability in mind, PePLink and Airpath recently collaborated on a series of compatibility tests between the PePLink Surf Wi-Fi modem and Airpath’s OSS solution. The tests have found PePLink Surf to be interoperable with all of the components that were tested.
“In addition to the very positive test results with Airpath, our first partner in Operation Support Systems, the PePLink Surf series of Wi-Fi modems have previously been tested and certified by numerous mesh network vendors and service providers,” commented Alex Chan, Managing Director at PePLink. “These latest test results further demonstrate PePLink Surf to be the most inter-operable Wi-Fi modem on the market.”
Consisting of both indoor and outdoor models, the user-friendly and standards-based PePLink Surf series of Wi-Fi modems extends citywide Wi-Fi signals to indoor areas, and can also connect devices without native Wi-Fi capabilities with citywide Wi-Fi. The Surf Series is compliant with the IEEE 802.1b/g Standard, and also provides secure authentication and encryption via support for the 802.1x, WEP, WPA, WPA2, and 802.11i Standards.
“The PePLink Surf enables our providers with the ability to provide a CPE device to their subscribers that can be authenticated using Airpath’s OSS. We feel that for Wi-Fi to be a true “DSL” replacement service, a device like the PePLink Surf is a must,” commented Michael Farrar, Vice President of Technology at Airpath. “Today most subscribers have multiple devices on their home network and as a result, demand the ability to provide network connectivity without each device having to authenticate itself. The PePLink Surf provides this capability.”
Airpath’s OSS, WiBOSS Metro, is a hosted, hardware-neutral platform that enables wireless Internet service providers and system integrators to deploy and manage Internet access service for city deployments. It performs all critical business tasks for network operators and service providers such as subscriber management, provisioning, authentication, authorization, accounting, and report generation, within a single application. Full customer care support for providers and end users is available via Airpath’s 24x7x365 customer care facility.
