Airpath's WiBOSS Lite Powers Wi-Fi in Worcester, New England's Third Largest City
12/5/2005

WALTHAM, Mass - December 5, 2005 - Airpath Wireless, Inc., the leader in enabling management and roaming for wireless broadband networks, today announced that the City of Worcester, Massachusetts has deployed wireless broadband at its City Hall Common and Union Station leveraging Airpath's WiBOSS Lite solution. From these locations residents, visitors and travelers can access the Internet for free with their Wi-Fi enabled computers and handhelds. WiBOSS Lite is Airpath's easy-to-use service that allows providers to offer free Wi-Fi quickly, easily and at minimal cost. The all-in-one hosted solution manages the business and technical functions of Wi-Fi networks and works cohesively with the hardware and system platforms used for public Internet access networks.

The City of Worcester, New England's third largest city, is located 45 miles west of Boston in the heart of Central Massachusetts. Last month, Worcester completed Phase I of a multi-million dollar makeover of City Hall Common which included the state of the art Wi-Fi deployment. The deployment extends throughout the Common and includes Union Station, Worcester's restored multi-use transportation center that serves as an inter-modal hub featuring MBTA train service to Boston.

"We are excited to work with technology leaders like Airpath to provide this crucial service to everyone who lives in, works in or visits our city," said Julie Jacobson, assistant city manager for economic and neighborhood development.

"Students from the nearby Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences are already sitting with their laptops on the common," noted City Councilor Joseph Petty, who thanked his colleagues on the City Council for their advocacy of increased use of wireless technology downtown.

Airpath's WiBOSS Lite is a hosted, hardware-neutral, web-based platform that helps operators manage hot zones and retail metro networks. It performs all critical business tasks for network operators and service providers such as subscriber management, provisioning, authentication, authorization, accounting, report generation, and network management within a single application. Full customer care support for providers and end users is available via Airpath's 24x7x365 Ohio-based customer care facility.
"In order to make this Wi-Fi initiative a reality, the City of Worcester needed to partner with experienced technology providers that offered the flexibility and scalability needed to make this program a success," explained Olivia Hecht, director of marketing, Airpath. "Our WiBOSS Lite is a complete operational support system that gives the City the ability to offer these services for free and provides the flexibility to easily grow the wireless footprint as demand for wireless services increases."
Airpath's partner Colubris Networks, a global provider of multiservice Wireless LAN (WLAN) systems for enterprises and service providers, is also working with the City on the initiative. The wireless deployment involves two components of the Colubris Intelligent MultiService System (CIMS): InMotion MultiService Controllers, and InReach MultiService Access Points specifically designed for outdoor installations. The combined controller and access point solution enables the cost-effective, scalable and secure delivery of next-generation wireless services -- voice, data and video.

"As municipal Wi-Fi fast becomes an invaluable utility for residents and businesses across the nation, Colubris is honored to collaborate with the City of Worcester and Airpath to drive urban revitalization in our own backyard," said Carl Blume, director of marketing, Colubris Networks. "As one of the leading cities in the Commonwealth, Worcester's revitalization initiative is trendsetting, encouraging other municipalities to similarly make Wi-Fi accessible to all."
