Airpath and Ubiquitair Bring Municipal Wireless to Maine's Casco Bay Region
9/26/2005

WALTHAM, MA AND YORK, MAINE - SEPTEMBER 26, 2005 - Airpath Wireless, Inc., the leader in enabling management and roaming for wireless broadband networks, today announced that Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) Ubiquitair has deployed broadband wireless across several islands in Maine's Casco Bay using Airpath's WiBOSS Metro solution. The islands, including Chebeague, Cliff, and Long Island, host thousands of visitors per year and are home to hundreds of year-round residents. Ubiquitair is using WiBOSS Metro to simplify back-office operations such as authentication, billing, end-user self care and reporting.

"Even with the technological ability to roll out hardware, the back-end challenges of setting up a metro wireless network are daunting," said Stuart Santoro, CEO and president of Ubiquitair. "The ability to easily manage subscribers, service plans and venues, as well as the creation of custom portal pages helped us ramp up much more quickly than would have been possible otherwise. Airpath is our 'back office'."

While there was considerable demand for wireless broadband in the area, it was not being offered by incumbent providers. Ubiquitair, which is rolling out wireless networks all along Maine's busy southern coast, is also providing Wi-Fi service to numerous hospitality venues and Metro hot zones. Additionally, Ubiquitair is providing wireless Ethernet service to Southern Maine residents and businesses at speeds up to 10 Mbps.

"Wireless providers understand that a large amount of deployment time could be spent setting up and testing the complex administration and billing systems that support revenue generation," said Olivia Hecht, director of marketing for Airpath. "WiBOSS Metro provides a tried-and-true platform for these critical components so that metro networks like this one can be up and running in minutes, once the hardware infrastructure has been deployed."

WiBOSS Metro is a hosted, hardware-neutral, web-based platform that helps operators manage hot zones and retail metro networks. WiBOSS Metro performs all critical business tasks for WISPs such as subscriber management, provisioning, billing, authentication, authorization, accounting, report generation, and network management within a single application. Full customer support for providers and end users is available via Airpath's 24x7x365 carrier-neutral facility. Additionally, if a wireless provider using WiBOSS Metro decides to shift from a purely retail model to a retail and wholesale model, the migration path to Airpath's RoamBOSS Metro- the only such solution in the industry - is easy.
