WALTHAM, Mass - September 19, 2005 - Airpath Wireless, Inc., the leader in enabling management and roaming for wireless broadband networks, today announced a strategic partnership with SkyPilot Networks, a leading provider of carrier-class broadband wireless systems. In keeping with their strategy of partnering with industry leaders, Airpath is teaming with SkyPilot to address the increasing demand for multi-use municipal wireless networks.
Airpath's metro solutions provide cities and the providers that serve those cities with the ability to set up, provision and manage their subscriber base. Airpath solutions also give providers the ability to deliver wholesale network access to other service providers. Since Airpath is hardware neutral, network operators can select the best hardware components for their infrastructure and be assured that Airpath's OSS & clearinghouse solution will interoperate and scale to meet their needs.
According to Muniwireless.com, the number of networks for both public safety/municipal use networks and public access more than doubled from June 2004 to July 2005. To address this growing demand for multi-use networks, SkyPilot's SkyExtender DualBand enables municipalities to deploy both a licensed 4.9 GHz mesh infrastructure for public safety access as well as Wi-Fi access services to the public.
To ensure a high degree of utility for their investments, network operators working with municipalities are increasingly designing multi-use wireless networks from the outset, rather than deploying disparate public safety and public access networks.
