Sharing Users To Boost Wi-Fi Revenue
6/13/2005

Waltham, Ma. — June 13, 2005— Todd Myers, CEO of Airpath Wireless, Inc. will moderate a panel entitled "The Wholesale Model: Generating Revenue by Roaming" at this Spring's Wi-Fi Planet conference. Wi-Fi Planet, which attracts the major manufacturers, sellers and buyers of Wi-Fi related technology, is being held in the Baltimore Convention Center, MD, June 14-16, 2005.

The panel, which takes place on Wednesday June 15 at 2:30 p.m., is part of the Hotspots and Roaming track. Additional speakers from HarborLink Network, AOL, and Civitium will also be participating.

"Wireless Internet service is increasingly adopted as the business standard for Internet access at home, on the road, or throughout the metropolitan area," Myers said. "A wholesale business model involving roaming is evolving to be the critical requirement for metro-scale wireless rollouts. Whether these networks are deployed by smaller providers, larger providers or the cities themselves acting as the provider, when they work together and allow each other's clients to roam between locations and service providers with ease, everybody stands to profit."

Roaming agreements allow providers to expand their network for users without building additional infrastructure by sharing Wi-Fi networks that are already in place. The network partnerships decrease cost and overhead while, more importantly, adding value for the consumer. Roaming consumers have more Wi-Fi networks at their fingertips; they experience continuity in service while easily moving from one location and provider to another.

This year, Wi-Fi Planet turns its focus to Wi-Fi solutions opening doors to new business models. "Providing wireless Internet services through a variety of platforms to a diverse audience can be a challenge, but our experts will discuss innovative business practices that will revolutionize the Wi-Fi industry," Ted Stevenson, conference chair for Wi-Fi Planet said. "We are delighted to have Todd Myers play a role in this discussion."

This panel will discuss the changing business models that are underway as availability of, and demand for, wireless broadband roaming increases and how providers and other constituencies can take advantage of roaming to grow their revenue. The conference includes nearly 40 sessions over 3 days.
