Waltham, Ma. — April 6, 2005 — Airpath Wireless, Inc., the leader in enabling management and roaming for wireless broadband networks, announced today that it, in conjunction with Telex Communications, Inc., and the Education First Network™ plans to broaden the nation's first coast-to-coast inter-campus wireless communications system. As part of this initiative, a unified communications system will consolidate disparate communications devices into a single interoperable system for emergency response and other applications in an educational setting.
Telex will provide its Vega™ IP-based communication equipment to integrate 2 way radios, cellular and analog phones, and IP-based devices used by campus staff over the school's computer network.
"Telex has been working with schools on integrating their disparate communication devices. The problem is that they often employ different radio systems within their schools, transportation and security departments. Our system has the capability to bridge these systems and link them directly to public safety agencies," said Bridget Herd, Director of Strategic Marketing for Education at Telex. "The Education First Network is a great way for schools to get the equipment installed," Herd added.
The Education First Network™ was created through several partnerships including Airpath, the Broadband Alliance and the National Joint Powers Alliance®. Through the nationwide network, students and educators of K-12 and higher education campuses with existing Wi-Fi access will be able to seamlessly log into any other member campus' educational wireless network. This will allow the educational community to extend their learning experience by leveraging wireless networks of other schools and universities across the country.
"While the educational effect of this network will be immediate, we would be remiss not to build into it a system to help solve rapid response situations faced on campuses everywhere," said Stuart Dankers, CEO and Chairman of the Broadband Alliance, Inc. "The included institutions range in size from elementary schools to large universities. We saw a need to leverage the emergency resources throughout each campus network as well as through their neighboring educators."
"There is no doubt that the faster that information can flow between emergency personnel, work crews, faculty, and students, the more immediate there can be a successful resolution in the event of an crisis," said Todd Myers CEO and Founder of Airpath Wireless.
